Hayden Ruiz (Santa Margarita Catholic High School) has joined the growing list of Orange County lacrosse players who are making it happen at the next level. Ruiz will be running with Boston University’s first midfield line when the Terriers take the field against the Mercer University Bears on Saturday.
Ruiz will be the only freshman on a talented midfield line. His sophomore linemates Cal Dearth (Ridgefield, CT) and Craig Zebrowski (Chester Springs, PA) are both returning starters with strong skill sets and athleticism. Dearth was twice named Patriot League Rookie of the Week last season and was named BU’s Offensive Player of the Year. Zebrowski was named the Terriers’ most improved player last year.
Head coach Ryan Polley made it clear that he has high expectations for Ruiz in a recent interview with goterriers.com “Hayden is a former attack who has very good skills. He’s a very good passer, he carries the ball very well and he is a good two-handed shooter. Like Craig (Zembrowski), he’s most likely going to get the short stick and will look to initiate.”
Ruiz wears No. 39 for the Terriers, and you can catch him live on campusinsiders.com at 10 a.m. Sorry, but sitting in the comfort of your living room in sunny Southern California will not earn you a free winter hat. You’ll have to be at BU’s Nickerson Field, where the weatherman is calling for a high temperature of 30 degrees and a chance of snow, to earn one of the free hats that will be given away.
