Boston University freshman Hayden Ruiz (Santa Margarita Catholic High School) is making his presence felt at the Division 1 level. Wearing No. 39 for the Terriers, Ruiz picked up two goals and an assist while running with the first midfield line in a scrimmage against Yale in October. Kat Hasenauer Cornetta had this to say about Ruiz’s performance in Lacrosse Magazine “Hayden Ruiz showed an attackman’s mentality at midfield, with two goals and an assist, and would have scored more had he not drawn a huge amount of attention from Yale’s defense.”
Inside Lacrosse also took note of the former Eagle’s performance in the Yale scrimmage “One freshman that stood out was Hayden Ruiz, an offensive midfielder from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. Ruiz scored two goals against Yale including a gorgeous goal coming off a screen and beating the goalie with a high shot. Head coach Ryan Polley said of Ruiz in the Inside lacrosse article “He is a high skill guy that played attack in high school, but we feel good with our attack so we moved him to midfield. He is a slick player that makes good decisions while having a solid game by moving the ball,” said Polley about the freshman. Polley had more to good things to say about Ruiz in his Fall Ball Recap.
