Roundup: Big Wins for Palisades, Chaminade

Palisades Charter, a playoff qualifier last year, opened its 2015 season with a bang, jumping in front of host Beverly Hills 9-2 at halftime, leading 13-5 after three quarters and cruising to a 14-8 victory.

No. 16 Chaminade 18, No. 14 Culver City 5

Chaminade Prep, ranked No. 16 in the preseason coaches poll, took an early 5-1 lead over No. 14 Culver City in West Hills and held a 6-4 lead late in the second period. But a 4-0 scoring burst in the last three minutes of the first half broke things open, and the Eagles went on to win 18-5.

Senior attack Matt Dauw led the Eagles with five goals, while fellow senior attack Cameron Yerzyk and junior middie Mark Galanti scored four each. Junior middie Ryan Oaks scored three and had three assists, and freshmen Max Kim and Andy Dyer each scored one in their varsity debuts. Junior goalie Peter Manfredonia recorded seven saves.

Valencia 15, Simi Royal 3

The Vikings reported a big win over Royal, evening their record at 1-1 before some teams have played even one. Valencia plays at Downey on Wednesday night.
