Santa Margarita short stick defensive midfielder Robert Colley is the Workhorse of the Week, sponsored by Athlete’s Choice. The junior has been a critical part of the Eagles success this season on the defensive side of the field, and is one of the hardest workers on head coach Adam Guy’s squad.
“Robert is hands down one of the hardest working kids I have ever had the pleasure of coaching,” Guy said via email. “He has a nonstop motor on the lacrosse field and is an integral part of our teams success.”
According to Guy, he is also one of the strongest kids in the weight room and will win nearly every sprint or conditioning drill the team runs in practice. He is not only in it physically, but mentally as well, being always dialed in and focused during practices and games, Guy added.
Colley is second on the team with 27 ground balls for the No. 5 Santa Margarita Eagles (3-0, 9-3) and has also caused three defensive turnovers. Offensively, he has racked up four points (1G, 3A) for Santa Margarita so far this season.
“As a short stick D middie, he is a guy you won’t see in the stat books a whole lot, so he really embodies the kind of team players you look for as a coach,” Guy said. “He works tremendously hard in everything he does and it makes our team that much better because of his individual efforts.”
The tenacious defensive middie also brings his workhorse attitude into the classroom as well, boasting one of the highest GPA’s on the team.
