Senior Lauren Kong scored four goals and No. 23 Peninsula held visiting Chadwick scoreless for a stretch of 35 minutes on Friday, producing a 13-4 victory on the Panthers’ senior day.
After Peninsula (8-8) finished honoring the graduating seniors from both squads in a pregame ceremony, Chadwick went right to work trying to spoil the Panthers’ celebration. The Dolphins (7-3) scored in the second minute of play, and the teams traded goals for much of the first half.
The Panthers finally got rolling, though. After Chadwick scored with just under 10 minutes left in the half to take a 3-2 lead, Peninsula answered to tie it, per the game’s established pattern, but then followed with three more in a row to build a 6-3 halftime edge.
Peninsula came out of the break with seven more unanswered goals, including three by Kong (4g, 2a), to lead 13-3.
The Panthers’ defense, meanwhile, kept the Dolphins in check, silencing their sticks for almost 35 minutes.
Peninsula senior goalkeeper Erika Hsu was struck on the helmet with a Chadwick shot and came out of the game with a little more than 10 minutes left. The Dolphins managed to score at the buzzer against her replacement for the final margin, 13-4.
