Big wins over J Serra Catholic of Orange County and Oak Park, combined with Loyola’s home loss to Laguna Niguel, vaulted Palos Verdes (8-3) back into the No. 1 spot in the weekly US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll.
Loyola (10-2), which also beat Rancho Bernardo of San Diego this week, remains second, with Westlake third. Loyola had held the top spot since Week 2. PV was voted No. 1 in the preseason and after Week 1. The two top teams face each other at Palos Verdes on April 27.
The Sea Kings received 10 first-place votes to Loyola’s three. Last week, Loyola had eight first-place votes to PV’s six. Peninsula received the only other vote for No. 1 this week. Westlake (8-0) received 11 votes for third place and three for fourth; Peninsula (10-1) received one vote for first, two for third and 10 for fourth. Crespi (6-4) received one vote for fourth, 11 for fifth and two for sixth.
The biggest mover this week was Brentwood, which debuted at No. 18 after wins last week over Palisades and Thacher.
