Palos Verdes Re-Claims No. 1 Spot in Coaches Poll

Tuesday, Palos Verdes came from three goals down in the fourth quarter to beat host Loyola in overtime. Today, the Sea Kings came all the way back in the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA Coaches Poll, re-claiming the No. 1 spot they held in the preseason.

Palos Verdes (7-2) received 16 of 18 first-place votes in this week’s poll, with Loyola (8-3) receiving the other two. The Sea Kings were voted No. 1 in the preseason but fell all the way to No. 4 after an 0-2 start. Now with seven consecutive wins, they’re back on top.

Last season, Palos Verdes opened in the No. 1 spot only to have Loyola move in front in Week 2 and remain on top until PV posted a head-to-head win over the Cubs in late April. This year, Loyola also took over the top spot in Week 2 and surrendered it a few weeks later after a head-to-head loss to PV.

Harvard Westlake (6-2), Westlake (6-1) and Agoura (5-4) remain Nos. 3, 4 and 5 in the poll, with Thousand Oaks (4-3) holding steady at No. 6.

Chaminade (6-2) moves up one spot to No. 7, bumping Peninsula (6-2) down one. No. 9 Newbury Park (5-3) and No. 10 Sierra Canyon (5-1) round out the Top 10.

Oak Park (5-7), which beat Agoura and lost to Palos Verdes last week, moved up two spots to No. 11. Palisades (7-1) lost for the first time this season, falling 12-6 to Mira Costa, and dropped from No. 12 to No. 14.
