Clinging to a hard-earned 5-3 lead over Brentwood at halftime Saturday, No. 17 Palisades clamped down defensively in the second half and won going away, 12-3.
Brentwood started off hot, scoring the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles’ defense and riding game were relentless in the first half, making Palisades work for everything.
The Dolphins finally got on the board on a goal from junior captain Macchio Rissone. Freshman Allessandro Caso and sophomore Jack O’Rourke added goals shortly after, and Palisades moved ahead 5-3 at halftime.
That’s when things changed, though, as the Palisades defense, anchored by senior goalie Spencer Au, bu ckled down and blanked Brentwood in the second half. Senior captain Noah Robinson, junior captain Liam Mathers and sophomore Kyle Lee shut down the Brentwood attack and played physical lacrosse.
The defensive energy translated to the Palisades offense, as senior Zane Dailey, O’Rourke, senior Joey Hamwi, sophomore James Burks and Rissone each put at least one goal in the cage to propel the Dolphins.
Rissone finished with four goals and one assist to lead Palisades, and O’Rourke and Dailey each scored twice. Caso, Burks and Hamwi each had one goal.
The Dolphins (2-2) play at No. 5 Thousand Oaks on Wednesday and at No. 12 Mira Costa on Friday.
