Pacific Lacrosse Showcase This Weekend
Heading up the showcase is Dennis Yeatman. You might be familiar with his son Will who was one of the first nationally known names in Division 1 lacrosse to come out of Southern California. Will was recruited to Notre Dame and then transferred to the University of Maryland to lead the Terps in two NCAA quarterfinal appearances.
The Pacific Lacrosse Showcase has an excellent player-to-coach ratio (110 players and 25 recruiting coaches) because it is the only showcase to highlight academics as part of the recruiting process. There is a minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 to participate and the majority of athletes have a GPA over 3.5. This means that coaches will have a chance to recruit every player that they see this weekend.
“One of the best aspects of this showcase is that the coaches are not just sitting in the stands with straw hats and clip boards,” said Yeatman. “They are hands-on coaching for the entire two days. For two hours on Saturday and and two hours on Sunday, the players perform in six stations and rotate so each coach has an opportunity to see / coach / evaluate each player in an intimate setting. When the games begin, the coaches actually become the coaches of the six teams with a four coaches to each 18 player team. When not coaching the coaches are on the sidelines in 25 chairs evaluating the other teams while not coaching.”
