Foothill’s O’Neill Commits to Carthage

Foothill senior attack Brody O’Neill has committed to study and play NCAA Division 3 at Carthage College.

“I chose Carthage due to the strong combination of athletics, academics, and location,” O’Neill said by email. “Being a D3 school, Carthage offers me a lot of opportunities to excel in the classroom while also competing for NCAA championship every year. Being in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Chicago are both extremely close to campus, and the college itself is located right off of Lake Michigan.”

O’Neill is just the latest in a long line of Orange County lacrosse players to choose to Carthage.  Beginning with Foothill assistant coach Mike Upshaw  there has been at least one Orange County player on the roster every year since 2010.

“The Foothill Knights are proud of Brody and his commitment to play at the NCAA D3 level, said Foothill coach Jon Fox by email.  “Brody is a two-sport athlete. He is a lax rat that is continually working on his game.  He brings great energy to the field and is a great teammate.”

As ready as he is to become a Red Man, O’Neill is taking in it one step at a time.  He knows that there is more work to be done and is looking forward to a successful senior season with the Knights.

“With my commitment out of the way, I am focusing on getting stronger in the weight room and faster on the field,” he said. “Of course, we as a team are looking to bring another championship to Foothill, and I plan on assisting however I can.”

I would really like to thank all of my coaches, family, and friends for being so accepting and supportive in my commitment process. My mom and stepdad have become accustomed to me waking up early to go to the gym and coming home late from the field because I wanted to get more shots in. They understand the drive I have to succeed, and have always had my best interests at heart. I would also like to thank my father, Kevin O’Neill. While he is not with us, I keep him with me everyday and I know he is cheering for me.

Go Knights, and Go Red Men!”
