OC Viewers’ Guide to the 2016 Pac-12 Shootout

We said it last year and we’ll say it again this year, while the east coast continues to reschedule lacrosse games to evade the snow, the 10 teams participating in this weekend’s Pac-12 Shootout have no such problems.  Once again, Arizona, Arizona State, Cal-Berkeley, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington State will invade the UCLA campus for two days of lacrosse.  UCLA is hosting the event for the sixth consecutive year. As always Orange County will be well represented on the field.

The Sibling Rivalry

Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. between Arizona and Berkeley will be highlighted by the Sibling Rivalry. Jack White will take the field for Arizona while twin brother Nick will roam the field for the Bears.  Arizona and Berkeley did not face one another last year, so this will be the first time the two sophomores from Beckman will be on opposite sides of the field in college uniforms.

;

University of Arizona

Jack White will have plenty of OC homeboys supporting him on the field.  Tesoro alum Tanner Knego is a First Team All-American goalie.  Sophomore Ryan Falbo (Foothill) was a catalyst for the Wildcats last season who put up 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) as a freshman.  The other Wildcats haling from the OC are Connor Weissman (Mission Viejo),  Brett Burkholder (Tesoro), Cory Kennedy (Newport Harbor), and Barry Baker (Northwood).

Arizona State

The Sun Devils are as flush with Orange County talent as  their cross-state rivals. Senior Connor Ebner (Santa Margarita Catholic High School) scored 16 points last season. Ebner’s  former high school teammate Wes Schuler is a first-year transfer from Division 1 Manahattan.  Don’t be surprised if freshmen Jake Marthens (Trabuco Hills), Cole Campbell (Los Alamitos), and Thomas Sanchez (Servite) see significant action.

Berkeley

Nick White will be joined by freshman teammates Julien Marchese (Foothill) and Cameron Lopez (Capo Valley).  Marchese was a US Lacrosse All Academic honoree last year.

UCLA

The Bruins will be playing without former captain Kevin Rowen (Northwood) for the first time in four years.  They will however have sophomore defenseman Griffin Schneider (Tesoro) to rely upon this year.  Schneider played in 12 games for the Bruins last year.

USC

A pair of OC alums will be patrolling the field at LSM for the Trojans.  Jack Harris (Corona del Mar) is playing in his second Shootout.  Freshman Cole Roberson (Tesoro) is experiencing it for the first time.Attackman Cortland Lioi (El Toro) scored 10 points for the Trojans last year.

Utah

Freshman goalie Harrison Eiler will be wearing no. 13 for the Utes.

Washington

Warren Case and Drew Boyd getting it done at University of Washington. Go huskies!!! Making Foothill Lacrosse Proud!!!!
