OC Players Shining at NSCLA Championships

Day one at the National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association (NSCLA) Championships in Newark, Delaware for the nine players representing Orange County on the West Coast Starz.. WCS, which chooses the top players in the Starz organization, sent three team to the tournament: a 2013 team, a 2014 team, and a 2015 team. The three teams went a combined 9-1 on the first day of the tournament. Jake Douglas (Tesoro) and Blake Hobel (Esperenaza) play for the 2013 team. Hayden Ruiz (Santa Margarita), Ravi Dhouni (Santa Margarita), Mitch Kingsley (JSerra), and Tucker Guyot (JSerra) all play on the 2014 team. The 2015 WCS are led by a trio from JSerra; Chazz Dotson, James Yanes, and Logan Olmstead.

Kingsley finished the day with a goal and four assists, Ruiz with two goals. Long poles Dhouni and Guyot played tight defense all day and each recorded several caused turnovers and ground balls. Dotson, Olmstead, and Yanes all performed well for the 2015s as Dotson caused a number of turnovers and picked up four ground balls, Yanes scored six goals, and Olmstead had a pair of assists.

The 2014 and 2015 WCS teams enter Sunday’s single elimination playoffs as the number 1 seeds in their respective brackets. The 2013s play the New Jersey Patriots at 9:00 a.m eat; the 2014 WCS team plays the New Hampshire Tomahawks at 11 a.m.; and the 2015s play the New Jersey Patriots at at 10:00 am eat.
