Led by a core group representing the next generation of Foothill Knights, the OC Crush U-15 battled through a competitive field of 12 teams to claim the Oregon Lacrosse Classic championship this past weekend. The Crush cruised through pool play on Saturday by outscoring the Lumberjacks, East Bay ACES and South Sound Starz by a combined 31-7. Crush continued crushing the competition on Sunday when they defeated Lilac City 9-3 to set up a championship game with Seattle Starz. The Seattle squad had to settle for second place as Crush handed them an 8-4 defeat to earn the tournament championship.
The tournament champs were led by head coach Matt Goto. On the field, Ryan Henry was unstoppable at the face-off X throughout the tournament. Henry won over 90% of his face-offs. Troy Hofer, Andrew Cumming and Easton Babb made the most of the possessions provided by Henry, scoring the majority of their team’s 48 goals.
The offensive and defensive midfielders keep their opponents and the ball right where it needed to be. Kai Shimabuka, Michael Galasso, Max Unis, Roman Pistone, Kevin Forester, and Charlie Tyson kept the ball flowing towards the offensive side of the field throughout the tournament.
The defense was led by Joey Garcia, Jeffery Keizler, Ryan Joy, Justin Nakamura and Massimo Ferris. Essentially the same defensive unit as the one that shut down their Orange County Lacrosse Association opponents this past winter, this group gave up less than three goals per game in the the Oregon Lacrosse Classic.
The team and families had a great trip, enjoyed the venue, the competition and everything that Bend, Oregon had to offer.
