Returns Home From Successful East Coast Trip

The OC , comprised of primarily players from the Foothill High School boys’ lacrosse team, returned home after a successful East Coast summer trip.

First stop for the team of 2019-2022 players was Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island for the Bulldog Brawl. The took an undefeated record into the championship game against the Tomahawks of New Hampshire, and after the end of regulation they were still undefeated.  Deadlocked in a tie, it took a three-on-three braveheart, which was won by the Tomahawks, to determine the championship.

Every player had their hands on the ball to help secure wins both days at Bryant. These boys played with heart and as one team. (2021), (2020) and guest (2020) had big games over the two days. Going into day two, defensive players (2021), (2020), Caden Salkeld (2021) & (2022) brought their A game with textbook stick checks, strips and slides. There was great groundball action by (2022) and (2022). Crush goals earned by (2021), (2020), (2019), (2021), Connor Hines (2019), and (2020). (2022) made it tough for the opposition’s offense and saved goals left and right.

The Knights took a break Monday for little fun in Boston in between tourneys visiting the USS Constitution, cruising Boston Harbor by ferry, exploring Quincy Market and participating in the famous Duck Tour. The whirlwind Boston tour finished with dinner in the North End.

The second half of the trip featured the NELS Showcase (Sudbury, MA), a tourney for the top high school teams from the New England region and specially invited teams from other diverse areas featuring many of the highest ranked programs in the country and Canada. The Knights saw tough competition from Smithtown-West (NY), Lincoln-Sudbury (MA), and Melrose (MA) on day one finishing 1-2.

In spite of an early East Coast morning on day two, the team bounced back and defense was stellar both games with Jeffrey Keizler (2020) and Justin Nakmura (2020) holding the opponent far from the goal. Midfields CJ Johnson (2021), Jacob Graves (2020), David Schoolmester (2020), (2020) and (2020) did their share both days facilitating the offense and riding on defense. Goals scorers in both games include: (2019), (2020), (2022), (2020), (2020), (2021) and (2020).

Goalie Joey “the wall” Garcia was MVP of the last game. Foothill finished 9th out of 16 tough teams. Not too shabby for a first time showing at an invitation-only event with a young team featuring only two seniors.

In addition to high-level lacrosse, the week saw many trips to several ice cream parlors with Coach Fox for his sweet tooth and with no complaints from the team.

And the addition of a few rising freshmen to the team brought 3 sets of brothers (Ahern, Pistone, Tyson) back East to play together.

In the end, senior Riley Ahern described the trip as great bonding experience and one that will help the team grow athletically and emotionally. “Facing the East Coast competition can only improve our game, help us learn to anticipate and trust each other more. Spending this week with these guys is a great start to my final year with Foothill lacrosse.”
