OC 7 Lead West to Under Armour Semi-Finals for First Time

maxlax-shield.jpgLed by seven representatives from Orange County, the West Team has reached the semi-finals of the Under Armour Underclass tournament for the first time.  The West has marched through a four-game gauntlet of traditional lacrosse hotbeds with only an opening game one-goal loss to Baltimore blemishing its record.  The West team has notched wins against Long Island, Upstate New York, and New Jersey to stake it’s claim in the semi-finals.  Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse has been extremely impressed with the West Team and Corona del Mar High School brothers Hugh and Hoyt Crance in particular.  Xanders reported in Inside Lacrosse yesterday “The West Coast crew has been exceptional over the last two days, especially during their overtime win over Long Island after blowing their lead the previous day against Baltimore to lose by a goal. Blessed with superior size and athleticism, the defense has been intimidating and the goalies have stood tall. In particular, recent Yale verbal Hoyt Crance (Corona del Mar ’15) was huge down the stretch and hit all of his clears to spark transition play for Jono Zissi’s squad. Cade van Raaphorst (Desert Vista ’15) has paced the defense with his leadership and physical play, locking down the opponent’s top attackmen and playing great within the team’s defensive philosophy. Against Long Island, the offense held serve and put up a three-goal run down the stretch. Attackmen Connor McCroskey (Bishop’s School ’15 / Harvard) and Quinton Eissler (Coronado ’15 / High Point) scored huge goals late in the fourth quarter before defender Hugh Crance (Corona del Mar ’15 / Notre Dame) fired in a goal to make it 10-9. After crushing the Upstate team in the 1:00 game on Saturday, their chances of thriving in Sunday’s playoffs are strong.”
