Senior attack Lorenzo Santor scored all four of his goals in a decisive second period Friday, leading No. 8 Oaks Christian to an 11-4 win over No. 7 Newbury Park. It was the Lions’ first win over the Panthers since early in the 2012 season, breaking a six-game losing streak in the series.
Oaks Christian (8-2, 2-2) led 1-0 after one quarter, 6-1 at halftime and 10-3 heading into the final period in winning its second game in a row. Newbury Park (8-2, 3-1) lost for only the second time.
Friday, a possession advantage thanks to midfielder Jake Herren at the face-off dot and solid goalkeeping from James Vils kept the ball in the hands of the Lions’ offense, and after a slow first quarter, Oaks took off.
Santor keyed a big second period, and Danny Redell scored two of his three goals in the third period as the Lions extended their lead while stifling the Panthers.
Santor (4g), Redell (3g), Cort Rogers (2g, 3a), Cade Rogers (1g, 1a) and Connor MacCleod (2a) had multiple points for Oaks Christian, and Ronny Redell (1g) and Jack Lenthall also contributed to the scoring.
Both Oaks and Newbury face tough Marmonte League matchups next week, with the Lions playing home games against Westlake and Thousand Oaks and the Panthers playing road games at Thousand Oaks and Agoura.
