Northwood Tops University 11-4

Northwood defeated University 11-4 on Wednesday to remain in a tie with Beckman for first place in the Pacific Coast League.  The victory extended the Timberwolves’ win streak to four games.

Once again Jason Venezia (3g, 3 gb) and Michael Bellas (5g, 1a, 2gb, and 2cto) led the way for the Timberwolves.  Vincent Li (2g, 2gb), Calvin Ta (1g), Karel Weinsz (1a, 4gb), Ben Langdon (1a, 4gb), and Raiden Huang (1a, 4gb) also tallied points for Northwood.

The real story of the day for the Timberwolves though was the defense.  Northwood limited Uni to just one goal in the first half while building up a 7-1 lead. The Timberwolves hustled their way to 38 groundballs and 9 caused turnovers to keep the pressure off Marcus Redman (7 saves) and Rowan MacLeod (1 save).  Ayden MacLeod, Andrew Bauer, and Wiensz teamed up to win 11 of the 19 faceoffs.

Next up: League play continues for both teams.  Northwood (6-5, 4-0) travels to Beckman (8-3; 4-0) on Monday to decide which team will remain in first place.  Uni (2-9; 0-4) travels to Woodbridge (2-2; 3-4) on Monday.
