Coming off the best season in the program’s history, No. 5 Oaks Christian opened the new season Wednesday with a dominant 14-3 victory over No. 16 West Ranch, serving notice that 2018 might be even better.
Junior middie Mike Spaeth sparked the Lions, scoring three goals in the first period as Oaks Christian jumped to a 6-1 lead. According to the West Ranch Twitter feed, the Wildcats took a three-minute penalty for an illegal stick, and the Lions capitalized in building their lead.
Oaks extended the lead to 9-2 at halftime and was up 10-3 heading to the fourth quarter.
Spaeth (5 goals, 2 assists) and senior attack Cort Rogers (4g, 4a) led the scoring barrage, with offensive contributions from sophomore attack Cade Rogers (2g), junior middie Carson Campbell (1g, 2a), senior middie Spencer Lewis (1g), freshman attack Presley Regier (1g) and senior defender Paul Ginziger (1a).
