Second-ranked Westlake led St. Margaret’s 14-7 last week when the game was suspended by weather with 17:49 to play. Thursday, the Warriors completed the upset, beating the defending section champion and OC No. 1 Tartans 19-13.
On March 5, Westlake broke an early 3-3 tie with a five-goal run and never looked back. The Warriors led 10-6 at halftime and surged out to a 14-7 lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Then the thunderstorm hit.
Westlake (5-0) was led by 13 goals combined from midfielders Claire Moats (6g) — three coming Thursday in the completion of the game — Shelby Tilton (5g) and Kailee Follette (5g). Sarah Sullivan, Delaney Waggoner and Mia Trilling scored one goal each.
Westlake is back at it Friday at home against Santa Margarita Catholic, ranked No. 4 in the OC girls lacrosse coaches poll. The Tartans (2-1) travel Saturday to take on No. 11 Newport Harbor.
