No. 1 St. Margaret’s Tops No. 3 Yorba Linda 13-4

On Monday, the No. 1 St. Margaret’s boys lacrosse team received 30 of the 31 first-place votes in the coaches. On Tuesday, the St. Margaret’s stated their case for unanimous approval with a convincing 13-4 win over No. 3 Yorba Linda, the recipient of the other first place vote.

The Tartans never trailed and had a commanding 8-1 lead as the first half closed. With Stuart Pollard winning 17 of 21 faceoffs and the Zane Handy/Sebastien Chicas (10 saves combined) goalie tandem barricading the cage, the Tartans cruised to the 13-4 victory.

Kevin Groeninger led the offense with seven points (4g, 3a). Koa Todd (4g, 1a) and Nate Sanchez (4g) matched Groeninger in the goal scoring department. Cooper Barkate added a singleton to give the Tartans the baker’s dozen.

The Tartans travel to Foothill on Thursday. Yorba Linda has the rest of the week off before visiting Century League rival Valencia on Monaday.
