Costa Mesa – After going two weeks without having played a lacrosse game, the Newport Harbor girls’ lacrosse team returned to the field and beat Temecula Valley 14-4 on Thursday at Estancia High School.
The Sailors (10-4) were led by Sarah Farley who had four goals, while adding four ground balls and three draw controls. Mariana Miller added three goals, Hayden Allen had five ground balls and goalie Jade Rettig had 11 saves for Newport Harbor.
Temecula Valley (6-6) got its four goals from Samra Cain, Holly Olvera and Jade West.
The Sailors showed no signs of rust, as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and eventually led 7-1 at halftime. Newport Harbor, which was coming off of a loss to Foothill from two weeks ago, held Temecula Valley to its lowest amount of goals its produced all season.
The Sailors’ play Tesoro in a pivotal matchup, which could have playoff implications on Monday at Tesoro at 5:30 p.m. For the Golden Bears, their next game is Tuesday at Great Oak at 7 p.m.
