Costa Mesa – The Newport Harbor girls lacrosse team didn’t let Monday’s loss to Tesoro affect them, as it knocked off Chaminade (ranked No.1 in Los Angeles) 10-7 on Thursday at Estancia High School.
The Sailors (11-5) were led by Katie Hendrix who had five goals. Laura Tran continued her strong play from this week by adding three goals while Caroline Farley and Adena Rothbard each had one goal. Rothbard played in her first game since April 4, when she suffered a concussion.
Newport Harbor, which celebrated its senior night, trailed 4-2 at halftime, but took the lead at 5-4 four minutes into the second half. After the Eagles tied it up at 5-5, the Sailors scored four consecutive goals to take the lead for good.
Goalie Jade Rettig added six saves for Newport Harbor.
Newport Harbor and Chaminade find out where they will end up in the playoffs, as the playoff seeding for Orange County and Los Angeles will be released today at a time to be determined.
