Newport Harbor continued their mid-season resurgence Wednesday night by defeating Beckman 10-6. Since losing their first five games of the season (three by one goal), the Sailors have now gone 3-1 in their last four games. The game was tight most of the way with a few key plays turning the tide Newport Harbor’s way and allowing the Sailors to pull away in the fourth quarter.
Neither team wasted any time getting on the board Wednesday night. Newport Harbor’s Dane Flinn started the scoring 53 seconds into the game before Dean Nagle put Beckman on the board a minute later. Kyle Duffy answered back for NPH followed by Chandler Pearce to make it 3-1 . Patrick Lynch tacked on two more goals and Flinn and Pearce each netted one more to make it 7-5 in favor of the Sailors at halftime. In addition to defenseman Justin Cheng’s highlight dodge and 10-yard rip, the Patriots added two goals from Jack Bilello and one from Zack Carter before halftime.
Beckman struck first in the second half when Carter assisted by Alex Watson scored the only goal of the the third quarter to make it 7-6 in favor of the Sailors. The fourth quarter was all Harbor. Duffy stuck one with high heat, and then dished of to Lynch who ripped one low and away to make it 9-6. Pearce teamed up with Flinn to score the final goal of the game.
Pearce, and Lynch finished with hat tricks for Newport Harbor. Flinn and Duffy scored two apiece. Beckman’s Cheng was a force on defense finishing the game with one goal, nine groundballs, and four caused turnovers. Billelo and Carter each had two goals and Nagle scored one. Spenser Thompson handed out two assists and Alex Watson had one.
