Two former Orange County high school standouts are among the players who’ll battle for the NCAA Division I title Memorial Day weekend in Foxboro, Mass. Notre Dame sophomore Ryan Mix, who starred locally for Corona del Mar, is the most prominent of the local players whose teams have made it to the big weekend. Former JSerra standout Joey Kimpler is a freshman at Maryland.
Additionally, five other Californians are on the Final Four rosters. Below is a quick summary of each player along with their jersey number so you can look for them this weekend on ESPN.
ORANGE COUNTY PLAYERS
33- Ryan Mix, Soph., Attack (Corona del Mar)
Mix is a 5-11, 190-pound crease attackman who scored 3 goals this year while playing in 15 games. In the NCAA quarterfinal win over Virginia, Mix was on the Irish extra man offense. He did not play his freshman year.
43- Joey Kimpler, Fr., Midfield (JSerra)
Kimpler had played sparingly this year, appearing in just 3 games for the Terps but not registering a point. A 6-0, 210 middie, Kimpler appeared this year in games against Georgetown, Marist and Villanova.
OTHER CALIFORNIA PLAYERS
25- Will Fredericks, Jr., Attack (St. Ignatius)
Fredericks has appeared in 8 games this year, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist for the Greyhounds this year after appearing in just one game each in both his freshman and sophomore years. He’s a 6-4, 205-pound attackman.
36- Kyle Runyon, Fr., Attack (Coronado)
Runyon only saw action in one game this season for the Irish, who are loaded on attack. He did have two shots in that one game, however. He is a 6-1, 164-pound attackman.
23- Dax Cohan, Soph., Midfield (St. Ignatius)
Cohan played in just 2 games for the Blue Devils this season. Cohan is 6-0, 174 pounds,
34- Ben Krebs, Fr., Goalie (Foothill; not the Orange County Foothill)
From Pleasanton, Calif., Krebs has not played this year for the Blue Devils. He is a 5-11, 190 pound goalie.
44- Spencer Peterson, Jr., Defense (La Costa Canyon)
Played in 3 games for the Blue Devils this season. Peterson is from Encinitas and is a 5-10, 188-pound defenseman. He missed all of 2010 with an injury.
