The resurgent Trabuco Hills Mustangs hosted the Capo Valley Cougars for a South Coast League matchup. March was not so kind to the Mustangs who lost four of their last five games last month. April has been better with the Mustangs winning their last two games. The Capo game was an opportunity to extend the mini streak and head into Thursday’s all important league game with San Clemente with some momentum.
Trabuco Hills got things started with a goal in the first few minutes of the game from Jason Kauo. Kauo’s goal was a sign of things to come for the night as the Mustangs had nine different players score goals. The Mustangs stuffed the stat sheet with goals and assists from Billy Barron (4g, 1a), Holden Evans (3g, 1a), Harrison Evans (2g), Wyatt Koudelka (1g), Jason Kauo (1g), John Kauo (1g), Noah Segovia (1g), Shawn Garland (1g, 1a), Jared Friesen (1g), Tyler Payne (1a), and Jake Lansner (1a).
The Mustangs defense was stout all night with solid performances from Scott Barger, Patrick Zanio, Jonathan Salgado, and Jason Rivera. The defense was backed by goalie Nick Wilson who had another stellar game in net finishing with a 66% save percentage. The Mustangs defensive pressure forced the Cougars into 21 turnovers, leading to a total of 40 ground balls for the night. The Mustangs cruised to a 15-4 final score.
The Mustangs return to South Coast League action on Thursday when they travel to San Clemente for a rematch with the league leading Tritons. The Cougars return to South Coast League play against the Tesoro Titans on Tuesday, April 19th.
