Bryant University sophomore Kyle Mummau (La Costa Canyon High School) was named a pre-season Honorable Mention All American by Inside Lacrosse Magazine. Mummau started all 21 games on the Bulldogs’ fifth-rated defense and fourth-ranked man-down unit, picking up 17 ground balls and adding 11 caused turnovers. While in high school Mummau was a three-year varsity starter for the Mavericks, and key contributor to the 2012 team that won the CIF Championship and was ranked No. 1 in the West and No. 20 in the nation by Inside Lacrosse. He was All CIF, earned US Lacrosse and Adrenaline High School All-American honors, played on the 2012 Under Armour West Team, and lettered in football.
The Bulldogs, under head coach Mike Bryant, have been climbing the NCAA D1 ladder since making the jump from Division 2 in 2009. The Bulldogs spent 10 weeks ranked inside the national top-20 this past spring, earning the program’s highest ranking ever at No. 11 on March 31, 2014. En route to a program-record 16 wins (16-5), Bryant topped four nationally ranked opponents, including a 10-9 upset victory over second-seeded and fourth-ranked Syracuse inside the Carrier Dome in the NCAA First Round. This year the Bulldogs have climbed to their highest pre-season national ranking ever; N0. 14 in the Inside Lacrosse 2015 Year-Book. The best part? Californians and San Diegans in particular are playing a big role. Mummau, former high school teammate Cam Ziegler, and Ryan Sharpe (Poway High School) are joined on the Bulldogs roster by Nick Hallmark (Marin Catholic), Will Montero (De La Salle High School), and Cade Bailey (De La Salle).
