Mission Viejo put an end to the Woodbridge boys’ lacrosse team’s seven-game season-opening win streak on Wednesday evening. The Diablos delivered a dominant second half performance that shut down Warriors offense and clinched the 7-3 victory.
The first half was a tight back-and-forth contest that ended with the score knotted at 2-2. Parker Haw and Matthew Chung scored for Woodbridge while Cody Harrison and Tyler Shamas scored for Mission Viejo.
The Diablos pulled away with a strong five-goal second half while their defense held the Warriors to nothing more than a late Brent Buckland goal.
Ryan Strachan and Josh Nin each scored twice, and Jacob Schwarz scored once for Mission Viejo.
The Warriors will next face Huntington Beach Oilers at Woodbridge on Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Mission Viejo hosts Laguna Hills on March 20 in their first Sea View League of 2018.
