A three-game winning streak against ranked opponents earned Mira Costa enough attention in the MaxLaxLA to bump the Mustangs from No. 11 to No. 9 heading into the final week of the regular season.

Mira Costa (12-3) beat then-No. 9 Sierra Canyon and No. 10 St. John Bosco last week after having beaten No. 13 the week before. The Mustangs are ranked No. 7 in the MaxLaxLA power rankings, a mathematical calculation that uses scoring differential to determine a team’s strength.

The first eight teams remained the same in the poll, with Palos Verdes (14-2) a unanimous No. 1 with 24 first-place votes. Loyola (12-5) is No. 2, receiving 22 second-place votes and two third-place votes. Harvard Westlake is No. 3, with two second-place votes, 21 third-place votes and one for fourth place. Oaks Christian received the other third-place vote.

Elsewhere in the poll, San Marcos (9-0) moved up one spot to No. 17 in its late-season push to enter the discussion for LA Championship Tournament berths. And Redondo Union (9-7) moved up two spots to No. 22 despite a loss to No. 14 St. Francis that snapped a four-game winning streak for the Sea Hawks. In the , Redondo is No. 19.

The coaches poll and power rankings are among the factors the playoff seeding committee can consider when it meets next Sunday to determine the 16 teams to seed into the LA Championship Tournament and the eight teams to seed into the LA Invitational Tournament.
