This past weekend teams from the Southern California Lacrosse League played a round robin syle tournament at the beautiful Peninsula Park Field next to the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. The games were fast-paced, competitive, and proved as an excellent chance for new players interested in playing in the spring to audition for their respective teams.
There were no real surprises as the SCLAX Fall Tournament went off without a hitch. It was an opportunity for the North Division teams to face off against the South for the first time since the 2010 season. South Bay proved to be “the team of the tournament” as they went undefeated exacting revenge on Newport Beach for their 2013 playoff overtime loss and squeaking out an 8-7 victory. They also capped off tournament play with a 10-4 win over 40 Thieves. Newport Beach and Beverly Hills both went 1-1. Newport beat Beachcomber 10-3 in the opening game. Beverly Hills lost to 40 Thieves 3-2 and beat Beachcomber 11-7. Hopefully the SC LAX will expand the Fall Tournament in 2014 to include all twelve SCLAX teams.
