Michelle Mendoza who has been a fixture on the Orange County lacrosse scene for over 10 years was named the new Concordia University Irvine women’s lacrosse head coach. Mendoza was a varsity player at both El Toro High School and Chapman University.
“To be selected and hired by CUI is the ultimate compliment; I feel so proud to meet the qualifications for the job. CUI has high hopes and expectations for the women’s lacrosse team this year, which will help drive me through what may be a challenging first time around,” Mendoza said via email.
Mendoza graduated from El Toro in 2010 where she played for three years as a founding member of the girl’s lacrosse program. Her coaching career began while she was still a student-athlete at Chapman with stints as JV coach at El Toro and El Dorado High School.
More recently Mendoza has coached at Victory Select and Mater Dei High School. She was also a MaxLax writer for several years beginning in 2012.
“My intuition says it’s time. I have always planned to gain a career in college or high school athletics since graduating from Chapman University. Working with MaxLax definitely contributed to that goal! Recently, the signs have been pointing me to realize that right now, I am meant to be coach,” Mendoza said.
