Meet the Captains: Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach’s boys lacrosse has five captains that helped lead the Oilers to the playoffs this season. In addition, the five captains helped lead the Oilers to the Sunset League championship last season. It was the first time the Oilers won the league title since 2013.

Mason Corkett: Corkett has been on varsity for four years as a defensive midfielder. Corkett plans to attend Santa Ana College for its fire program and eventually become a fireman.

Donnie Schulte: Schulte has been playing lacrosse for about 10 years and has been on varsity for three. Schulte says that the group of captains is a strong representation of Huntington Beach as a whole, with talented leaders and players.

Dylan Werlinger: Werlinger has been on varsity for three years and has garned awards such as Sunset League honorable mention as a junior and a scholar athlete for all four years. Werlinger plans to attend and play lacrosse at Cal State Fullerton.

Timmy Benson: Benson has been on varsity for four years and has played for Team 12 and Slugs. Benson plans to attend Orange Coast College, transfer to USC and pursue a job as a police officer. Benson also would love to join USC’s club lacrosse team and keep up with the game of lacrosse as long as possible.

Grady Mercier: Mercier has been on varsity for four years. In 2016 and 2017, Mercier was named to the all-Sunset League first team and was a scholar athlete. Mercier is still exploring his options after high school, but has narrowed his options to a few schools.
