McElroy Takes Over at Marina

Antonio “Tony” McElroy has been named the new head boys lacrosse coach at Marina High School. The announcement was made last Monday in an email from previous coach Nick Dallas.

“I’m looking [forward] to see the players, parents, and coaches being on the same page with one another and to see these kids improve and have fun with the sport,” McElroy said in an email.
A graduate from North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA, McElroy played lacrosse at Long Beach State for two years.
McElroy has been a mentor in the Long Beach, Huntington Beach and Irvine areas for five years and has been coaching for three years. Coaching Marina will be his first year coaching as a head coach.
“I sorta fell into Marina. After graduating from CSULB, I went to a park behind Marina to play wall ball. One day, there were a couple other kids hitting the wall too. We started talking and they were players from Marina lacrosse. They recommended me to their coach. From there, things just fell into place,” McElroy said.
In his three year tenure, Dallas went 16-37 with the Vikings. Dallas was named the Sunset League’s Coach of the Year back in 2016 after guiding the Vikings to their first winning season since 2013.
