A stout defense, mixed with a relentless offensive attack and a dash of flawless goaltending by Nick Colignon (Jr.) was the perfect recipe for a dominating 17-0 shutout for the Mater Dei boys bacrosse team in their Tuesday evening win over Santiago High School.  The Monarchs improved to 12-1 with the win.

Colignon’s 13 saves, along with his supportive defense, left for an unblemished scoreboard, silencing the stymied Sharks.  Colignon has been on an incredible run over the last 3 games, only allowing 4 goals while racking up 35 saves in those contests.

The Mater Dei offense sported a balanced attack, with eight different players scoring for the Monarchs.  Cole Crisostomo (Soph.) and Grant Portillo (Jr.) led the charge with 3 goals each; Sean Sanchez (Fr.), Ryan Stiller (Soph.), Evan Curry (Soph.) and Rowan Piani (Jr.) all added 2 goals apiece; while Kyle Waterman (Sr.) and Triston Jewell (Soph.) each notched 1 goal.  Nate Chu (Soph.) dished out a team high 3 assists and Lucas de la Paz (Soph.) continued his season dominance at the faceoff spot, winning 80% of the evening’s faceoffs (16 for 20).

The 12-1 Monarch’s next match up is Wednesday night vs. J. Serra at Mater Dei.
