San Juan Hills senior Amanda (Mandy) Muhr is the Athletes Choice Workhorse of the Week.

The Stallions lost 10 seniors to graduation last year including three attackers who accounted for 88 goals.  Just three years after playing lacrosse for the first time Muhr is ready to step up as a team leader and help fill the graduation voids.

A soccer player since her youth, Muhr was a lacrosse novice when she tried out as a freshman.  She impressed the coaches with her athleticism and work ethic and made the JV team.  Muhr learned quickly and by her sophomore year, her stick skills and lacrosse IQ were ready for varsity.

Despite having just one full year of experience under her belt, Muhr contributed to the varsity offense with 10 goals, two assists and four ground balls as a sophomore.

In the off-season between her sophomore and junior year is when she decided to stop playing soccer and fully dedicate herself to lacrosse. She started working out weekly at Athletes Choice with Nick Tintle, and he started developing her shot, her footwork, and her lacrosse IQ. Her junior year was her break-out year where she started every game for the Stallions and scored 21 goals, had eight assists and scooped up 14 ground balls.

Coach Michael Welter is looking for her to continue that trend into her senior year and help pace the offense.

“Mandy is a leader on the field as she tries to encourage the younger players to work harder while continuing to improve the team chemistry,” Welter said by email.

Muhr also puts in her time with the books and has a 4.14 GPA.  She is looking at the University of Virginia, the University of Texas and the University of Utah as places where she wants to continue her education.
