Los Alamitos girls lacrosse senior Madison Navarro has committed to Colorado Mesa University, an NCAA Division 2 school. The announcement was made Tuesday via Instagram. Although Navarro is primarily a defender, her athleticism allows Griffins coach Courtney Novak to use her in a number of different situations depending on the team’s needs.
“Maddy has always been a reliable defender, but I always look to challenge my athletes and I knew her capabilities could be utilized in the midfield as well. She’s a dynamic athlete with ambition to make her team the best we can be on both ends of the field,” Novak said via email.
Navarro leads the Griffins in groundballs with 29 and also has a goal and an assist.
“Anytime Maddy scores a goal, I beam with pride because I know it took her time and work to be the athlete she is now and I couldn’t be more proud,” Novak said.
Last year, Colorado Mesa went 12-4 overall and 7-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Rams lost to Regis 11-10 in overtime of the second round of the RMAC lacrosse tournament.
