Loyola, Harvard Westlake Remain 1-2 Atop Coaches Poll

Mission League rivals Loyola and Harvard Westlake remain Nos. 1 and 2 in Week 3 of the US Lacrosse/MaxLaxLA coaches poll, but the top-ranked Cubs were a near-unanimous selection after defeating the Wolverines 10-5 last week.

Loyola (6-1) received 19 of 20 first-place votes, an increase of six from last week. Harvard Westlake (4-1) received no first-place votes after having six in the previous voting. One ballot had Palos Verdes No. 1.

Westlake (5-1) and Palos Verdes (2-2) remain third and fourth in the rankings, but Thousand Oaks (4-2) moved up two spots to No. 5, and Newbury Park (5-1) jumped two spots to No. 6. Previously No. 5, Agoura (3-3) dropped behind those two at No. 7 after losing to Westlake and Thousand Oaks.

The biggest movers in the poll were Oak Park (2-5), which climbed from No. 17 to No. 13 after two victories, and Crespi (0-7), which dropped from No. 15 to No. 19 after losses to St. Francis and Peninsula. All seven of the Celts’ losses have come against teams currently ranked in the Top 20, five of them in the Top 10.

Three teams entered the poll this week after being out of the Top 20 in Week 2: Thacher (3-0) moved in at No. 14; St. Francis (5-3) moved in at No. 18; and Culver City (3-3) moved in at No. 20.

The addition of those three bumped another three teams out: El Segundo (2-4), Cate (1-2) and Birmingham (5-0) — previously Nos. 18, 19 and 20 — dropped out of the Top 20.
