Three days after losing at home to Aliso Niguel, No. 1-ranked Loyola traveled to San Diego and came away with a hard-fought 9-8 win over Rancho Bernardo.
The Cubs (10-2) received scoring contributions from eight players, led by Jonathan Partamian (2g, 2a) and freshman Henry Hasenberg (2g). Ryder Mora, Mike Lira, Harrison Mac and Nate Mohler scored one goal each; Sean Smith had a goal and an assist, and Garrett Smith had an assist.
The Broncos (7-2) are rated No. 6 in the San Diego Section on LaxPower.com. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Loyola responded with a 4-0 second quarter to lead 5-3 at halftime. Bernardo closed the deficit to one at 7-6 entering the fourth quarter, but Loyola scored the first two goals to lead 9-6, then held on as the Broncos rallied. They scored with 2:48 left, then again with 39 seconds left, but the comeback ran out of time.
