Los Al beat Huntington Beach 15-10 last Friday to regain the Sunset League crown outright.
Los Al trailed almost the whole first half. As the second quarter came to a close the Griffin’s found themselves down 8-6. The deficit would have been bigger if not for several stellar saves by Los Al goalie Jackson Browner.
Rallied by Coach Jewitt during halftime, the Griffins regrouped and out scored the Oilers in the second half 9-2. Thanks to strong defense by Matt Herbert, Caid Fernandez, Cole Campbell, Cole Sommers and Brandon Moore, the deadly Huntington attack couldn’t produce any consistent offense.
Tyler Miller’s seven goals and three assists led all scorers. Miller also scored six points against St. Margaret’s earlier in the week to give him a 16-point week. . Miller completely dominated the game to the point where HB assigned a defender full time to lock off Miller even when the ball was in the Huntington side of the field. The strategy was ineffective as Miller continuously beat the full time coverage that included double and triple teams. Miller was assisted by his bother Cody Miller who time and again facilitated offense for the Griffins. Brandon Ezzell found his groove in the second half and added four goals of his own, followed by Patrick Baikie who had two. Jake Householder and Joey Weinman also contributed a goal each and paced the griffin’s to a 6-0 league record.
Los Al is off on spring break until April 23, when they travel to Edison to take on the Chargers for the final time this season.
