The Loomis-Chaffee boys’ lacrosse probably breathed a sigh of relief when they left the recent bomb cyclones and nor’ easters behind for a spring break trip to Southern California. Unfortunately for the Pelicans, they ran head-on into an unexpected sou’ wester at Northrop Stadium on Thursday night.
That sou’ wester came in the form of a relentless 15-goal onslaught from the Foothill Knights who cruised in the second half to a 16-6 victory.
Foothill wasted no time in getting on the board. Miles Smart won the opening faceoff, and eventually, the ball found it’s way to Ellis Geis up top. Geis rolled right, beat his defender and stuck it in the lower left corner before the game was a minute old. Before the game was five minutes old Andrew Cumming and Josh Fox tallied and Geis added his second.
While the Foothill offense was clicking, the defense was applying relentless pressure that prevented Loomis-Chaffee from getting comfortable in their clearing game or mounting any kind of a threat. By the time the half ended, the outcome was pretty much settled with Foothill leading 15-2.
Next up for Foothill is a rematch of last year’s County championship game against Corona del Mar.
