Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, one of the top teams in Massachusetts, beat No. 1 Foothill 13-11 on Tuesday to end the Knights’ winning streak at 28 games over two seasons. It was Foothill’s first loss since Torrey Pines beat them 14-13 on March 22, 2014.
The game started out well enough for the Knights – Drew Boyd and Matt Harris scored early to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead. That did not last very long however. Lincoln-Sudbury used a big advantage in faceoff percentage to build up a five-goal lead at one point. A late surge by Nate Marano (5 goals) and Kevin Kodzis brought the Knights to within 11-9, but that would be as close as it would get.
BostonLax.net reports that Ryan Blank put on a stellar show in cage, turning away 14 Warrior shots. Lincoln-Sudbury coach Brian Vona added “The goalie was excellent. You have to change the plane against those guys, and that’s the only time we started scoring on them.”
