No. 1 Corona del Mar High School remained one of only two unbeaten teams in Southern California (Westlake High School is the other) by beating El Toro High School 13-2 on Saturday. It was the seventh time in 13 tries that the CdM defense, this time led by Brian Leguay and his six groundballs, have held a team to two goals or less.
As usual the Sea Kings scoring was well distributed with six different players finding the back of the net. Senior Max Kline (4g, 4a) was high scorer with eight points. Seniors Niño Chavez, Sherwin Gersten, and Noah Howe scored two goals apiece, with Howe also dishing out an assist. Juniors Jordan Greenhall (2g, 1a), and Stephen Von Der Ahe (1g) completed the CdM scoring.
Junior Matt Truniger and sophomore Will Favreau supplemented Leguay’s 6 gbs with 3 apiece. Senior Hoyt Crance had 6 saves and junior Jason Simaaan won 9 faceoffs.
Next up: El Toro (7-5; 4-0) continues their pursuit of the Sea View League title when they host Mission Viejo on Tuesday. CdM (13-0) puts their undefeated record on the line against No. 5 J Serra (9-3; 3-0) on Monday and No. 3 St. Margaret’s (15-2) on Wednesday.
