Laguna Hills used a dominating first half to upset San Juan Hills 15-10 Monday evening. Taking advantage of draw control and quick passing on offense, the Hawks ended the first half with an 8-2 lead. While San Juan was struggling to place their shots and settle down their offense during possessions in the first half, they came back fighting after halftime trying to snag a win on their home field.
Playing a tighter defense and winning more draws, San Juan started making a comeback and went hard with their shots every chance they had. With ten minutes remaining,the Stallions pulled within five goals. Any hopes for a comeback though were squashed by Laguna Hills who matched the Stallions goal for goal the rest of the way resulting in a 15-10 Laguna Hills victory.
Sabrina Astle and Mia Roth led the Laguna Hills offense with four goals apiece. Astle added an assist and helped her team keep possession for a majority of the game. with her draw control. Lauren Guerro added two goals and an assist while helping the offense run smoothly. And scoring one apiece were, Alex Zoch, Melanie Traylor, Rafaella Bucur, Katie Brown, and Kayla Tayco. Sarah Furhman was impressive between the pipes.
San Juan Hills standouts: Sophomores Elena Guillen (6 goals, 1 assist) and Hannah Miller (4 goals) accounted for all of the Stallions scoring. Freshmen Bridget Cain and Taylor Austin took turns winning important draws to support the Stallions’ comeback attempt. Goalie Aine Veon made a number of strong saves for the Stalions.
