Michael Lacy is the boys’ lacrosse head coach at Huntington Beach High School. Thursday evening. Lacy accepted the role after previous head coach Mike Murtha stepped down. According to Lacy, the team got the news under a month ago saying that Murtha had a second job and he “couldn’t keep coaching.”
“We were all very [shaken up] a bit, but I made sure that the guys understood that we’re leaving off on the same note, nothing’s changing. The only two things we’re worrying about is our season and playing together,” Lacy said.
Lacy will also be the offensive coordinator for the Oilers this season. Aiding Lacy is Cole Daws, who will be the defensive coordinator.
Lacy, a 2015 Huntington Beach High graduate, was the JV coach for Huntington Beach’s boys’ lacrosse team last season, which went 18-0 and won the Sunset League.
Last season, Huntington Beach went 9-10 overall and 6-2 in the Sunset League, finishing in first place in the five-team league. The Oilers lost 11-1 to Corona Del Mar in the first round of the U.S. Boys Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs.
