Lacrosse Inches Closer to CIF Playoff Status With Edison Addition

edison__edited-1_largeAs you may or may not realize, although lacrosse is a California Interscholastic Federation sport, the high school playoffs are managed by US Lacrosse not CIF. The reason for that is CIF requires 20% of the member schools within the CIF Southern Section to offer the sport in order to have playoffs. With 575 member schools and a geographical area the covers Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Mono and Inyo counties, the CIFSS is the largest of the ten CIF sections. With the addition of the Edison High School program, there are now 36 CIF lacrosse programs in the Orange County/Temecula area and 44 in the Los Angeles area for a total 80 CIF lacrosse programs with the CIFSS, leaving us (by unofficial count) 35 teams shy of CIF playoffs.
