The three-time defending section champion Loyola Cubs, who return at least eight players who received All-American, all-area or all-league honors last year, were unanimously voted No. 1 in the 2019 MaxLaxLA Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Cubs, who finished 21-4 in 2018 after beating St. Margaret’s in the US Lacrosse Southern Section title game, were listed No. 1 on all 30 ballots submitted.

Palos Verdes, which finished 19-4 in 2018 after losing to Loyola in the LA title game for the third consecutive year, was listed No. 2 on 28 ballots. Harvard Westlake, which lost to Palos Verdes in the LA semifinals, and Chaminade, which lost to Agoura in the second round of the playoffs, received the other two second-place votes.

Harvard Westlake and Agoura finished Nos. 3 and 4 in the poll, and Chaminade finished No. 5. Below is the complete MaxLaxLA Preseason Top 20 heading into the 2019 season, which begins Feb. 23.
