Karzak Towers Over East Coast Competition

Matt Karzak, the tall and versatile middie/attackman from JSerra was named a Fab 40 All StarAt NXTsports’ Philly Boys Showcase Camp in Pennsylvania .

The Southern Division finals left the 6’5″, 215lbs, rising junior with some unfinished business.  Karzak is up for grabs on the recruiting scene and his size and athleticism will undoubtedly garner attention this summer. Karzak showed up focused and intent on showing off his skills from day one. Including the All Star Game,  he played six games, scored 11 goals, and had 12 assists.

Karzak says, “I stuck on the crease, tried going full speed all the time while trying to do the little things coaches like to see.  I think [my size] definitely helps.  I’m able to post up when I’m dodging or feel a defender on my back.”

Director of Showcase Lacrosse and Coach Brett Manney remembers Karzak well: “I certainly do know who he is.  Matt was a skilled attackman who had size and finishing ability from both the outside and with time and room.  In one game he even had an impressive behind the back goal.”

At the Showcase, Karzak competed against high-caliber East coast talent from schools like Chaminade High School (NY), West Islip (NY), and Calvert Hall (MD).  The camp also drew over 20 Division I colleges.  When asked what college recruiting names he wanted to see, Karzak was not exclusive.

“I was kind of interested in whoever was there, like Boston or Lehigh,” he says, “I’m keeping my door open.”

For the Showcase, and any other recruiting events he will attend, Karzak has a simple game strategy: “It’s just playing 100% the entire game.  Moving the ball as fast as you can.  Talking to players.  Being a vocal leader and playing fast.  At JSerra, we have a lot of guys committed to DI schools.  It helps to play and practice with them.  You end up improving.  When you do that for so long, their high level just becomes normal to you.  Coach Kyle [and the other coaches] helped too, they just know so much about the game that it makes you play better.”

As Karzak continues to tower over competition from East to West, key figures like Coach Manney will not forget him.  “Matt certainly made a name for himself here on the east coast,” he said, “We look forward to watching him this fall at the Philly Showcase.”

Being selected to the Fab 40 gets Karzak an automatic invite to the Fall 2014 Philly Showcase in November.  MaxLaxOC will be watching!  Congratulations, Matt Karzak!  Tune in for more updates of Karzak’s summer lax activity, including the Maverik Showcase he is playing in Connecticut this week.
