JSerra junior midfielder and team captain Joe Miraglia has committed to play NCAA Division II lacrosse for Belmont Abbey University in North Carolina.
“It was the right fit for me socially, academically and just overall a great school,” Miraglia said.
Miraglia wants to major in Business Management when he arrives at Belmont Abbey. He credits his coaches and his father for helping him choose to be a Crusader beginning in 2018. The junior has also played for the 3d Southland club team, where he competed in the Oceanside Hustle Tournament (see highlight video below).
JSerra head coach Brendan Porter praised his midfielder after the Lions season opener in which Miraglia scored an unassisted goal.
“Joe going to Belmont Abbey is so good, he is such a good player,” Porter said. “He’s a two-way middie, which is what you would hope for and he wants to work and get better. I think he can be an All-American here, without question. He’s a freak of nature. He moves well, he runs hard and he plays good defense. Joe does everything. He’s a do it all midfielder. Joe Miraglia is going to be someone to mess with for sure and I’m really excited about coaching him.”
The Crusaders had a solid 2016 campaign as they finished the regular season 12-3, but lost to Mount Olive in the ConfCarolinas Tournament semifinals. So far this season, Belmont Abbey is 2-1 and was ranked 10th in the USILA/Nike DII Men’s Lacrosse poll.
