JSerra Stays Unbeaten in Trinity League

No. 4 J Serra Catholic High School beat No. 18 Servite High School 13-10 on Tuesday to maintain sole possession of first place in the Trinity League.  The victory sets up marquee matchup between the Lions and No. 5 Santa Margarita on Thursday.  The Eagles are on spot behind the Lions in the polls and the Trinity League.

The Lions led the Servite game from wire.  Jake Schleppy (High Point) opened the scoring at the 10:30 off a right alley dodge.  Adam Armienta came right back 15 seconds later to give Servite a share of the lead that the Friars would not see again in this game. James Yanes (Hofstra) with some help from long poles Joey Luna and Cayson Fincher scored the next three to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.
Servite goals from Trevor Branca (assisted by Stephen Shatynski) and Andrew Murrietta closed the gap to 4-3 before a patented Matt Karzak crease finish and Yanes’ fourth goal in the final minute had J Serra doubling up the Lions 6-3 at halftime.
Led by two more goals from Yanes, J Serra extended their lead to 11-6 in the third quarter.  Austin Shackleford,  Yuta Murata (Colby), and Logan Olmsted (Colorado Mesa) also scored for J Serra in third quarter.  A Chase Anderson goal assisted from a Tom Sanchez clear highlighted the third quarter for the Friars.
Servite attempted valiantly to come back in the forth to no avail.  Servite goals  from Shatynski, Kyle Cartwright, Anderson, and Armienta completed the Servite scoring.  Schleppy scored a pair of J Serra goals in the fourth quarter to reach the 13-10 final score.
Next up:  No. 4 J Serra (10-4; 4-0) hosts No. 5 Santa Margarita (10-4; 2-1) on Thursday.  The Trinity League title and perhaps the fourth seed in the playoffs are on the line.  Servite (4-9; 0-3) travels to Mater Dei (5-9; 1-3) on Thursday.
