Foothill boys lacrosse junior goalie Joey Garcia has committed to study and play NCAA Division 1 lacrosse at the University of Utah. The announcement was made last week.

“I like how Utah is super-close out west and family will be able to get out a lot easier,” Garcia said. “When I went to go visit, it was gorgeous. I absolutely loved it.”
Garcia is a two-sport athlete who quarterbacks Foothill’s undefeated varsity football team, the No.1 seed in the CIF-SS Division 9 playoffs. When he’s on the lacrosse field, he is not afraid to come out of the crease and use his mobility to give the Knights an extra offensive weapon.
“He understands sports and could be a starter at any position on the field. He’s ready on any save to go Blaze Riordian coast to coast,” Foothill coach Jon Fox said in an email.
Garcia, an all-county second team representative, made 163 saves as a sophomore. He also made 48 saves as a freshman, which was second on the team back in 2018.
Garcia is the third Orange County player to commit to the Utes since September. Connor Kentros of Santa Margarita committed to Utah in September and Peter Hagan of Mater Dei committed to Utah last week. Kentros and Hagan are both seniors.
“I want to be part of a growing program and be part of a foundation to try to make a difference there and make it [Utah] a big lacrosse school and big community over there,” Garcia said.
“Joey is an exciting leader, with a charismatic energy, and competitive spirit,” Fox said.
