Los Alamitos High School announced the hiring of Chris Jewett to run the Los Al boys’ lacrosse program. Although Jewett may be an unfamiliar name to many OC lax fans, he comes to Los Al after building a stellar resume playing in his native Rhode Island and coaching in the Los Angeles Area. Jewett grew up in Providence, RI, where he earned All-Prep / All-State honors as the quarterback of his high school football team and was a three-time All-State lacrosse player. In addition to being captain of his high school lacrosse team, he was a Rhode Island Indoor Lacrosse All-Star and was a member of the New England East vs. West game. Jewett then went on to play Division 1 lacrosse at Providence College.
Jewett has been coaching lacrosse in the Los Angeles area since 2007, first as head middle school coach at Brentwood, and then as head JV coach and assistant varsity coach at Peninsula High School. In 2011, Chris helped to create the Los Angeles Box Lacrosse League in Torrance. From 2011 to 2013, Chris was the head varsity boys lacrosse coach at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. Chris led Mira Costa to a Bay League title, LA County Championship and a spot in the CIF Southern Section Finals. For his efforts he was named 2011 Bay League Coach of the Year. Together with his wife Amber and a business partner, they own HIP Studio, a Pilates and fitness studio in Hermosa Beach.
MaxLaxOC has been told by a Los Al insider that Coach Jewett comes to Los Al with very high recommendations from a multitude of sources, and that the Los Al lacrosse community feels very fortunate that coach Jewett shares the program’s vision and commitment to making Los Al Boys Lacrosse the best it can be.
